I'd like to bring my family to the village to sightsee. What are the opening hours?

Hi,

Quite a few people asked the same question in the past. I guess this is because Holland Village might appear to some as a man-made, commercial, tourist "attraction" - such as the Night Safari, etc.

Just to clear the air, Holland Village is nothing like this. It is merely a venue or an estate containing a multitude of independent shops and restaurants mostly along the streets of Lorong Mambong, Lorong Liput, Holland Avenue and Jalan Merah Sage (in Chip Bee Gardens).

However, there are two shopping buildings: Holland Road Shopping Centre (along Holland Avenue) and Holland V Shopping Mall (along Lorong Liput) which house three levels of shops each. Many of these shops are owned by independent shopkeepers.

Therefore, there is no fixed "official opening hours". However, many of the shops within the two shopping building open between 10am and 8pm. The shops along the streets are opened between 10am and 10pm.

As for the restaurants, most are opened for lunch but the PUBs usually open at 3pm.

You can take a look at the Map of Holland Village here to see what comprises the village: http://www.holland-village-singapore.com/map-of-holland-village/

cheers!

Chinese New Year falls on the 10th of Feb in 2013, which is a Sunday.

Traditionally, all Chinese shopkeepers would close their shops early on the eve of CNY (Sat this year), so do expect a major blackout of commercial activities on the evening of 9th Feb.

For sure, you can also forget about the 10th and 11th (Sun & Mon). I suggest you stock some food in your fridge unless you are near a 24 hour supermarket, a hotel or some fast food chain.

So, you can write off three evenings (Sat, Sun & Mon). As for Tuesday, it's touch-and-go because quite a few proprietors do not believe that opening on the third day (Tues)of Chinese New Year is auspicious, so many would open only on Wed, the fourth day.

In view of the focus on family activities, any shops which are opened on these days tend to be those serving essential needs.

Cheers!
